Herbert Rosenfield (August 6, 1918-July 20, 2016)
a big man
living in a big time
who rooted in his world
& glowed
a man of decisive competence
& a blustery-caring mind
who laughed at the game of
money
he knew how to build
he knew how to cope
he knew how to protect
what he loved
what he believed in
this man generated
God-light in his doings––
In his family, in his businesses,
In hospitals & colleges,
with horses and model trains,
& in human lives
one didn’t need to
know him well
to feel respected &
to learn respect
he will stay with us
to tend the roots of things––
a presence of integrity
in every beat of our hearts––
the rich virtue
of his long & generous life
is a gift to the ages
