defining deviancy down & out

propriety is dead––
courtesy & civility
have broken ranks &
fled

his mouth was always
foul––but now
all hell is
permissible

the world is changing
too quickly––
some people are
afraid they may be
losing their
supremacy––

that they are
being restrained
from cursing at
their new neighbors

they feel too muted
by political
correctness to spit out
the bile in their
throats––
the fear in their
fist-pounding
hearts

anxiety
rattles them so
in their beds
that even sleeping
with their guns
gives them no
peace

they needed a
character from shock
tv––
a godzilla of
the airwaves
to spew out their
rage––
to burn their
enemies

they were suffering
from insufficiency &
rustiness––
they wanted to be
great again

they wanted their
sweat equity back
that vanished
into the corporate
clouds above them

& into the depository
accounts of the
great

their tvs convinced
them that foreigners
had taken their
jobs––
that women were
getting too
uppity––
that maybe
black lives mattered
too much

that they should rage
against muslim
families––
refugees of amerikan
wars––displaced suffering
human beings
whom they never saw
in their lives

they felt forgotten
on their soft couches––
abandoned in their suburban
castles––
lonely in the driver’s seats
of their indebted cars
with rabid talk radio
as their companion

did they join
their local school
boards?
run for council or
mayor?
did they advise their governors,
senators, representatives,
& ombudspersons
loudly enough
of their plight?

all was still &
silent over decades of
rot––
because they were
afraid to speak
up?
because there was no
testosterone hero
charismatic enough to
bellow out
their cause?

why weren’t they
leading their boy
scouts & their
girl scouts around the
world?

‘Tis the gift to be simple, ‘tis the gift to be free
‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

We can’t forget how Lafayette helped give us our first chance,
To win our fight for liberty and now they've taken France,
We’ll take it back from Hitler and put ants in his “Japants”
And that’s...
FOR THE RECORD!

when was the last
time you asked
what you could do
for your country?

there was a time
when families pioneered
across a wilderness
to build a farm,
plant seeds in
mother earth &
thank God
for a bountiful
harvest

go out & raise
a barn with your
neighbors––
build a campfire &
tell some family
stories to your
kids––
remember how
to laugh at
yourself

a hug beats
a hand shake
every time

if nothing else,
Americans are
practical––
there’s no situation
you can’t work or
invent your way
out of

the whole world is
at your command––
take care of it

open your heart
to let the sunshine
in––

find a way to do
good for others––
& teach your kids
to be
polite

believe in
tomorrow––

never surrender
your independence
in this brother
hood where trust builds
the village

you can do it––
YOU can do it
YOUR SELF
if you try––
with just a little help
from all your friends
