the protestant ethic
isn’t working very
well these
days.
we all still
need to work to
eat––
but what when
all the work &
pay is
gone?
the bills pile
up & you want
to burn
them––
but they’re
burning
you!
the p-ethic is still
the convenient
standard of the luckily
employed
men of
principle, & the powerful
whose only
principle is
greed.
they call them
selves christians,
but they’ve
written-off the
meek, the merciful
& the
kind––
& they’re ready to
outsource
faith, hope &
charity.
for these benevolent
gentlemen,
“all for one” means
“self”––
& that antique
e pluribus unum sentiment
on the honest single
dollar bill
is as dead as a
doornail.
