Soliloquy

Just yesterday evening,
I had an uncontrollable urge
To call you.

But the hour was late
And besides
You were probably asleep.

Alone,
I imagined you there

Sleeping-
Adrift in calm darkness

Your head nuzzled against the pillow
And your mind within your head
Dreaming.

Your image
Reminded me to be a poet-

So I entered your dream and
Began to write.

We were
Two beings

Curling together like clouds
In an unimaginable sky.

I felt
The mythic winds
Caress your mind

And was lifted
Like a whisper on a breeze

To a soft grey shadow
Beside your head.

Suddenly,
You stirred, and called my name.

I traveled on a lightning bolt of fear
To an empty chair

In a dank, blank room

In my only mind.
