the good, the true &
the beautiful are all
passé.
the present
smolders like
manure in nuclear
winter––
like memory
deconstructed into
rot.
we are a wasting
kind––
we destroy all
we cannot
consume.
we brutalize
the earth, the animals,
the air, the sea & each
other.
we are
divided & conquered
by lust, greed &
a rampant willful stupidity
for a zero-sum-
zero tomorrow.
we have broken
our covenant
with this world––
the spirit is
dying.
equivalent to
a poison-belching
volcano, or a jarring
collision with a screaming
asteroid––
our hateful power
nearly ensures
this world’s
extinction––
& hope, kindness,
mercy & compassion
seem all
passé
forever.
