we have raised
so many orphans––
their parents,
alive or drown,
are distant
now
we the people
are young &
abandoned
all we were promised
has been consumed
by that locust generation
that gave us
life
& the wealthy very few
who still want
more
we are the brightest,
healthiest, tallest,
strongest humans of
all time
born in the radiant light
of a great civilization,
our expected inheritance was
the future––
but we are left with
squabbling darkness &
in debt
our fathers & our mothers
were cheated
by a manipulating system
spun out of control
by dirty wealthy
hands
& also by ignorance &
inattention
the American Century is
in foreclosure––
wildfires rage, cyclones
blow. there are floods
in some places & others are
scorched with desiccating
drought
now come the hordes of
police armed with guns &
bully clubs en masse
who can’t even protect
their own pensions
in this failed amerikan spring
our culture trickles down
into sewage
as a god-voiced public
service announcement
drones on––
“… the plight of your
generation is very
important to us …”
to keep us calm as
the economy dips
down
& the lucre is vacuumed up-
ward in torrents of unmarked
cash
the enemy of wealth is
change––
(the tea party wants to
return to the 50s––
the 1750s-& they aren’t even
wealthy)
maybe the holy
rich were counting on
being saved by the
rapture, or that
these freshly-minted persons
would roll over dead like the
buffalo
we are your young &
your unwanted. we are
unafraid & we have
absolutely
nothing to lose
