Let’s celebrate a Christmas that never was––
A Christmas of fleshy angels with twinkling brass horns
& furry reindeer in jewel-spangled harnesses––
A bustling factory of unionized elves and Santa and his bride answering heaps of wishful letters with grins, winks & magic ink––
No need to imagine three kings entering Bethlehem, each step affirms a blazing white-blue star suspended in the stark, crystal cold of winter night––
A Christmas of families that pray for the well-being of their neighbors, & are thankful for each other & their gigantic santa-sack of shared blessings––
Of honest politicians, & countries that honor their treaties, & business persons with objectives bigger than themselves
Let armies beat their swords into ploughshares, & humans keep their troth to one another, & children honor their parents, & parents respect their children––
We see anger holding hands with forgiveness, & justice hugging understanding, & hate transmogrified by whatever miracle into love
Our hearts are touched by liberating ribbons of wisdom & compassion & trees festooned with glittering ornaments of kindness––
Poverty, disease, pollution, ignorance, bigotry & violence fade to light
& disappear
It is Christmas eve & in the fields, on the country roads, over the city streets, snow is falling, children are romping, sleigh bells are singing
Let there be hope in your heart, strength in your hands, & willingness in your mind to celebrate this Christmas that never was––
To beam this impossible Christmas down to earth where it always wanted to be––
To summon what seemed a dreamy reverie into waking reality––
Right here
Right now
