Cornelia Whitener Dupont (November 19, 1927-October 16, 2015)
whenever you cupped
your hands together
God entered your heart––
you always knew
you were a miracle––
as we all are––
you knew God––
you felt God––
you burned with God
& wanted your faith
to incinerate
all doubt
you were stubborn
to perfection
with the love
of your husband,
your children,
your home
& your village
you knew what was
right because
your iron intelligence
told you
& would not bend
God took you to his own
when your work here
was done––
if there are tables
of decision in heaven––
you will find your chair––
you will speak
& angels will listen
