the united states of immorality

i pray for my country

when winning trumps
all virtues
we embark on
dangerous times

republicans fomented
fear-hate-rage for many
years & fear-hate-rage
went to the polls &
voted

a man flaunted
his flaws & immoralities
in every way before
a watching, listening,
disbelieving humanity––

let amerika choose
who rules

no one believed
such a man could
win

the people, the writers & the media
witnessed ceaseless
misbehaviors, counting
insults one-by-one

herewith a near consensus
list of adjectives that fit––

ignorant, bullying, lying, racist,
narcissist, misogynist, authoritarian,
demagogic

&, as the result of a "free & fair"
& "un-contested" election,
the U.S. Electoral College affirmed the
will of The People to endorse
these immoralities––

ignorance, bullying, racism,
lying, narcissism, misogyny, demagoguery
& an abominable lack of
integrity

we celebrate these devil’s
virtues by granting
their possessor with
ultimate world power
over life &
death

his followers admire him
for “saying what he
thinks”
& he walks away
like a forgetful
disaster

what harm he
has done to others––
intentional, unintentional &
otherwise––
what harm
he will do

we put a scalpel
in the hands of an
over-grown-boy-child
without discipline, education,
internship or residency &
entrusted him to do
surgery on the human
heart

he is so perfectly un-experienced
in politics & unknowledgeable
of political science & history
yet we set him
with great pomp & sacred
circumstance on our highest seat
of power

he has hurt &
impoverished so
many in his life––
injured and demeaned
so many &
robbed them of their
dignity

how can anyone tell
a lie from his confusion
or his hopeless inconsistency
from delusion?

some are doting &
accepting of his wrongful
ways––

this showman & manipulator––
this prime-time creature
of shock tv

if our nation so rewards
iniquity,
of what use is
integrity?

if this is our
anointed leader––
our role model / our ideal––
what, then, do we have
to teach in our schools or
preach in our churches?

this man is a loser
who wins––
who is comfortable
with the guilt he can
not clean from his
hands––
& the pain & distress
he spews so fluently
from his lips

this man without
a hint of
character––
to such a fickle
man
we entrust the future
of the world &
all that lives

with his ascendancy
the reputation of
this country
trumples

he is an uncommon
con man with an ear
for what his proximal
audience wants
to hear––

one who promises
everything
& is honestly committed
to nothing––

a very impressionable
man
with an absurd/injured
sense of
truth––

& so we elected, &
democracy confirmed,
a purely selfish ego,
lusting for power,
to be our king
