was once
the house of
the people––
now it belongs
to the ego
of the president
so many of
the people
have lost their
minds in a cloud
of cheering
hypocrisy
they are willing
to trade-in morality
for power––
compromise for
force––
civility & courtesy
for a strong man
they don ‘t trust
the government
they’re tearing apart
with their anger––
their fear has
transformed their
fellow citizens into
enemies––
they are surrounded
by black & red &
yellow & white
enemies––
men & women––
young & old––
even infants
they hate them &
fear them &
want to banish
them all
their power man
is a pawn of their
whims––
a tool of stronger,
smarter men––
they cannot trust
their brothers &
sisters because
they may think
differently––
they want gates &
walls & scrubbing
battalions of soldiers
& police––
they want to keep
freedom & liberty
only for themselves
because the color
of their skin &
what they happen
to believe
makes them
unequal
wars & inquisitions
& rampant killing &
hating have happened
many times in
history
love is the reason
for religion––
caring for others
is the right hand
of democracy¬––
honesty & integrity
are the reasons
we have schools &
churches & temples––
the reason we don’t
really need fences
or prisons or
handcuffs
our human mission
is to relieve the
suffering of others
& within our selves
to protect our planet
& everything living &
dead
to see with the open
eyes of kindness
now & forever
