a man without virtue
& lacking any taint of goodness
is president of the united states
how could a man
who is ruthless, selfish & angry
be the leader of a hopeful nation
unless that nation is hopeful
no longer?
his people––
his totally devoted followers––
feel weak––
for them he is strong
his people feel poor––
for them he is rich
his people feel powerless––
to him all the power
in the world
his people believe in him––
only him
they pledge their lives
to him
& the futures of their children
to him
they want to succeed––
they don’t care how
they are willing to suffer
the rapture of annihilation
so long as their enemies
are ruined
for rage has filled their hearts
& they are blind with pain––
there is no remnant
of conscience
only their president
can deliver
the power & the fist
they crave
