war party

i

the bullies
have taken over the
school
yard

& their will is
done.

tolerance
screams out
loud; conscience
runs &
hides;

compassion is
battered to
death.

i cower &
cannot
speak.

all that i
love is
dying.

ii

the spoiled
children of
power are strutting
their stuff with
dazzling
force.

i am
ashamed at the
bloodlust of my
countrymen;

shocked at the
paranoia of
preemption;

awed
by the blazing
fabrications
incised upon the
red-black
sky.

iii

to what
extent did our
amerika
cause the deaths of
100,000 arab
children?

did we
trample the
holy land?

do we favor
israel beyond global
reason?

bigger than our
britches & out of our
minds, we
rule.

iv

no priests or pastors;
no mullahs or
ayatollahs speak
out.

religions do not
protect us from
war

& governments do
not hear the
people, as they
chant in peaceful
unison; as they
detonate themselves
in mad
insurrections of
courage.

the earth is in
flames of fear &
no conscience is
unscathed.

v

the people
nod their
heads; the
senators nod
their heads; the
newscasters nod
their heads

& blessed
consensus has been
blissfully reached
excluding only

effeminate, unpatriotic,
heretics & the criminally
insane.

vi

it is left to
history to
record the
barbarity of this
time; its

intemperance of
judgment & willful
aggression.

it is left to
war, the father, to
rage, destroy &
burn himself
out

in the hollow
caverns of mortally
wounded
hearts

for as many
centuries as it
takes.
