rest less ness

i cannot sleep.

it is not be
cause the sun has
failed to welcome dark
ness through his
twilight gates;

the birds have long since
beckoned floating
night &

stars stood ready to
rise behind my
eyes.

but once these gentle
mercies went their
way

then sleeplessness
attacked my utter brain with
spears

& jabbed my
joints with tender
hooks &
jolted my body
wild with
reflex
pain.

all hope for
rest was
gone.

the blank electric
light can give no
solace.

the smirking inquisitor
forbids all possibility of
dreams.
