blindness & light

we grew––
roots intertwined,
sharing wind & rain

till one day
the invisible
happened.

a sudden sheet of
glass severed the world
between us.

our leaves no
longer touched & it
cleaved the ground
causing silent
pain.

the edges of our green
began to wither.
branches wilted
from exhaustion &

grey bark
paled.

is this a sign
of dying?

unbidden as it came,
the glass
withdrew.

how can we hug
so nothing comes
between
us?

thinking doesn’t matter
& questions lead
to false
conclusions.

even a poem can
embrace the heart
for only a
moment.

what is the difference
between
love & surrender?

clinging & tenderness?

blindness & light?

fishes
learning to swim in
the sky

yearn somehow,
to forget about the
sea.
