war is serious
business––
& if vagrant
politicians cannot
agree––
the dead, the
maimed, the dying
& their families
can.
all war is
evil.
all war is
horror.
war is an
ageless curse,
native to the
yang of human
things.
there are wars
of reflex. wars of
obligation. &
unpardonable private
wars of self or selfish
indulgence.
wars that commence
with a crack
in the universe
no bigger than the
preemptive ego
of a solitary
man.
& as there is
no immanent threat;
no pending obligation;
such wars are
baptized in their
going forth by a
lie.
all the howling
masses of the dead
& the suffering; the
rampaging herds
with blood on their
hands; all the enemies
by opposition, by revenge,
& by distain; all
saintly spirits of
the past & the sure
presence of God are
summoned to the
conscience of the
guilty.
the fury & the anger
& the memory will
some time pass
away
but the harmonic
spirits of creation
will forever
mourn.
