the dance of dennis

leave your sadness and cares outside,
to melt in the freezing rain.

watch your dreams gleam
    like stars across the ceiling.

burn all your doubts in the fireplace––
finally there’s something to believe in.

the bride & the groom
    clasped hands,
the hearts of their friends
    pressed near to them.

the words of the vows
    so short and sweet
the kiss of the bride
    their pledge complete,

the witnesses signed
    the documents, when
the time
    grew bright &

angels filled the room
    with invisible horns &
    miraculous drums.

the inn on the hill
    began to glow

while the guests dissolved
in the hug of the dance.

the groom bopped
    around
like a leaping lord

& the bride’s heart laughed
    at the sight of it.

fear left through
   the back door;
trust came through
   the front.

the guests lost
   their names in the joy
of the time;
   the music took
their minds.

they moved like one
   body 'cause they didn't
need to worry

& all spent that night
partying in paradise.
