the ecstasies of every day

let me share the
   ecstasies of every day
with you.

let me see the drear light of
   winter tuesdays through
your eyes & look & see
   & look & see until
   our insides
bloom.

each time we cross the threshold
   when the car door shuts
   whenever the train bell sounds
we’re on our way to a
   crazy caramel carnival that
never sleeps.

the troubles of finding a parking spot
   near the cleaners will make
us smile. the colors of the
vegetables at the grocery store will
make us laugh. & the smell of
laundry will leave us shivering with
wonder.

every breath
   every moment
   every flicker of light or
   shadow of darkness is
sacred.

our inheritance in this life is
   love, uncertainty & death
& we promise not to waste
any.

if you take my hand, we’ll be
explorers in search of angels &
pilgrims in quest of the anticipated
   end & somehow
forever after.
