The Noble Koans

true love is silent.
the soul of the poet
knows no speech.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

the words––
where Spirits
touch.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

your heart-aches belong to you.
enjoy them and go to school with them.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

what remains forever sacred
remains forever unsaid.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

when i hold you in my arms
where is the space
for misunderstanding between us?

    *    *    *    *    *    *

it is incumbent upon us
to make every instant of our infinite lifetimes
beautiful.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

now,
open yr eyes
& dream.

    *    *    *    *    *    *
the solstice came & went;
now the sun is falling.

    *    *    *    *    *    *
the desert waits
for humankind there is only the next now.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

a poet is always falling in love with something.
   tonight he’ll be proposing to the moon.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

as the mind grows
   so grows the heart.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

let go
of what you have.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

let go
of what you do not have.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

let go
of letting go.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

do not be afraid
the light touches everything.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

I love the light
    & the darkness
   that makes it glow.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

we want to believe in nothing so badly––
but why deny the cool night air?

    *    *    *    *    *    *

how do poems of dream matter to a poet of the world
whose pen can’t remember them?

    *    *    *    *    *    *

remember how you strolled
arm-in-arm with your mother through her last days?
you are waltzing with her now.

    *    *    *    *    *    *

teathered to life
hair turning to ash
knowing that even forever
won’t last

    *    *    *    *    *    *

just trust
the leaves

   to fall

      like

         this.

    *    *    *    *    *    *
