between the brain-dead &
the non-comprehending
stalks the jury.
while
tv lawyers pepper
the courtroom air
with doubt–the
media sours civility
with latent fear.
reason is subpoenaed,
but the papers cannot
be served.
& meanwhile, in the slow-motion
atmosphere of justice, with
attention-spans stretched
beyond their legal limit,
the jurors nod
as guilt escapes
between the terrible syllables
of the too-proud law.
If the jury has wisdom,
then wisdom is both
invisible & mysterious.
