For Mother on her Wedding Day

Life has taught you much,
So if you tell me
That you wish to take
This man, Warren, for your husband,
I must respect your wish.

Perhaps you feel that
Neither John nor I
Appreciate or love you––

At times we feel much
   And say nothing,
At times we gesture
   but you do not see.

On this, your Wedding Day,
I wish you
The best that mortals hope for
But only God can give––

Abiding peace,
The comfort of a home,
Many friends,
And a long
And happy life.
