panacea

panacea is
the lazy man’s
dream

the easy way out
without thinking

thinking makes us
tired

having a conscience
takes more energy
than digging a
tree hole

that’s why
politics is a
soundbite

apps make
the world seem
user-friendly when
it’s not

press a button
& you get any
thing you’ve been
conditioned to
want

anger is an inflamed
state of being

incited to riot
by fear––

we want to torture
people––

to throw them out of
our country––

to build a great high wall
to keep them
out!

we’re a nation
of immigrants without
a memory

when our country
was great––

we declared torture a
warcrime––

& now, every bit of hard or
dirty work is done
by immigrants––

we’d drown in
our own sludge
if they didn’t
clean up our
mess

our national panacea
is our “greatness again”

but we’re too bored
to remember
who we were
whenever that was
