peace fairness kindness

to give, to share, to care, to smile

justice is a big
word––

a god, a king, an executioner,
a demigod
with a terrible swift sword

a bleeding pretense of righteousness
when nobody knows
what’s right

fairness happens at a kindergarten
water fountain; on a little league
baseball field;
in an understanding between a
father & a daughter; husband &
wife; employer & employee;
leaders & countries; signatures
on the back of an envelope

fairness is a human sense
of balance––

all men are equal
to all women & children &
all living things––

fairness doesn’t need
judges or courtrooms or
prisons or punishments––

it offers a handshake
from the goodness of our
hearts––

loving, kind & respectful
without hardly
trying

& it knows how
to smile
